Drawing Studies #003
Period | 2012 — 2014 |
Medium | 0.05 pigment liner on 220 gsm paper |
The drawings in this series are based on a rule in which the process starts with a straight line done by a ruler and then, with a spacing equal to the line itself, another line is drawn parallel to it, this time by hand – and so on consecutively, over and over again. The hand-drawn line creates imperfections (bumps / small oscillations) in the the attempt to make the consistently parallel lines – and in order for the following line to have a consistent distance from it’s previous – the line needs to be drawn in contour of the previous line’s imperfections. This makes for some imperfections to be augmented as the lines are “echoed”, as a kind of ripple. From the build up of these imperfections the drawing gears itself towards a new unexpected form as a whole.
